Problems uploading an image
Updated 29 October 2026
If an image won't upload, the upload page shows a message under it. Here's what each one means and how to fix it.
“This image is larger than 40 MB.”
Each image can be up to 40 MB. Save it again as a JPEG (quality 90 is plenty) and upload that.
“Only JPEG, PNG and WebP images can be uploaded.”
Other file types, such as HEIC photos from iPhones, RAW files or PDFs, can't be used. Export the image as a JPEG first. On an iPhone you can also go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible, so new photos are saved as JPEG.
“Too small … The longest side must be at least 1,280px.”
The image needs to be at least 1,280 pixels on its longest side. Upload the original file: copies sent through messaging apps, downloaded from social media or saved as screenshots are usually much smaller.
“You can send up to 20 images at a time.”
Submit the images you've already uploaded, then add more.
“You've uploaded 50 images today.”
You can upload up to 50 images a day. Please come back tomorrow for the rest.
“The upload failed” or “The connection dropped”
The connection was interrupted. Check that you're online and try again. Big files can take a while on slow connections, so keep the page open until the progress bar finishes.
