License
Every image on Free Image Vault is free for personal and commercial use, with no attribution required. Most are dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0 or marked as free of known copyright with the Public Domain Mark; AI-generated images and icons are shared under our free-to-use licenses. Each image page shows which one applies.
You can
- Use images for free, for personal and commercial projects
- Modify, crop, recolour and combine them
- Use them on websites, social media, ads, packaging, prints and video
- Use them without giving credit (credit is always appreciated)
Take care with
- Recognisable people: don't imply they endorse a product, cause or business
- Logos, brands and trademarks visible in a picture are still protected
- Buildings, artworks and private property may have their own restrictions in some countries
- Public domain status can differ between countries for works marked "Public domain"; CC0 applies worldwide
Where the images come from
Images are either our own work, released under CC0, or collected from sources that publish them under CC0 or as public domain, such as museum open-access programmes, Wikimedia Commons and government archives, or AI-generated digital art we have the right to give away. The credit box on each image shows where it came from.
AI-generated images
Some images are AI-generated digital art rather than photographs. Their image pages say so, and their license is shown as "Free to use". We share them with their creator's permission (resell and giveaway rights): you may use them for free in personal and commercial projects, without attribution. Because they were made by AI, places in them may not look exactly like the real thing.
Icons
The icons in our Icons category come from an icon pack whose creator allowed us to share them. Their license is shown as "Free to use": you may use them for free in personal and commercial projects, without attribution. They are PNG files with a transparent background.
Mistakes can happen
We check every image before publishing it, but we rely on the information our sources give us, and we are human. Occasionally an image may be published by mistake that we did not have the right to share: for example, when a source labelled it incorrectly, or when someone passed on an image that wasn't theirs to give away.
Images are provided "as is", without any guarantee that their license information is correct. Before an important use, such as a logo or trademark, product packaging, a large print run or an advertising campaign, check the original source shown on the image page. If we remove an image because it shouldn't have been here, please don't use it in new work.
Think something is wrong?
If you own the rights to an image here and didn't agree to it being shared, tell us. We review reports quickly and hide the image while we check.
